Training Course on

Science, Technology and Innovation

6-24 April, 2009   

The course is intended to develop concepts on the interactive relationship between Human Resource Development, Technology and other Socio-Economic Policies leading to Innovation. Teaching will be interactive with lectures followed by discussions and group assignments. Lectures will be delivered by national and international scholars invited from reputed institutions.

Course covers the following main topics;

We live in a world where dynamics of creating new knowledge and technological developments define national competitiveness. The national technology policy perspectives are changing as knowledge as key resource receives explicit recognition. Traditional supply oriented Science and Technology Policy is being replaced with Innovation Policy which facilitates flow of knowledge between various actors in the building of National Innovation System.

Realizing weak capability of OIC countries in the formulation and implementation of Innovation Policy COMSTECH Secretariat is organizing a training course on Science, Technology and Innovation from 6th to 24th April, 2009.

Who will benefit from the Course?

Students / Researchers involved in Development related studies, Science and Technology Policy Research, S&T and R&D Managers and Public Servants involved in Planning, Management and Promotion of Science, Technology and Innovation Policy are expected to benefit from the Course.

Course Structure and Contents

Structure and Contents

 Course covers the following main topics:

  • Thinking about the future, rationales and objectives of Foresight, Introduction to Foresight methods
  • Environmental scanning; forecasting; Delphi; creative methods
  • Developing and using scenarios; fitting things together – the methods ‘jigsaw’
  • Planning a foresight exercise; future technological prospects; social foresight; regional and national foresight case studies
  • Foresight outputs, implementation, and evaluation, forum on the future of Foresight and practical session presentations
  • Foresight in Thailand
