ISID Grant, SSI/ISID Fellowships, Scientific Exchange Fellowships

International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) is to enhance research, prevention, and treatment of infectious diseases, particularly in low resource countries. The Society##$$s programs emphasize the transfer of information and appropriate technology through training and education of health care professionals. These programs include conferences, workshops, training grants, and fellowships. ISID is committed to improving the care of patients with infectious diseases, the training of clinicians and researchers in infectious diseases and microbiology, and the control of infectious diseases around the world.

ITTO Fellowships

The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) offers fellowships through the Freezailah Fellowship Fund to promote human resource development and to strengthen professional expertise in member countries in tropical forestry and related disciplines. The goal is to promote the sustainable management of tropical forests, the efficient use and processing of tropical timber, and better economic information about the international trade in tropical timber.

Erasmus Mundus - OpSciTech Scholarships

Application for academic year 2011-12 will reopen on November 2010. Deadline: 02 January 2011. MSc OpSciTech is a unique European Master’s Course providing a comprehensive and multidisciplinary coverage of the field of Optics, from upstream scientific aspects to engineering and applications in major sectors of the economy. OpSciTech is one of the Master Courses selected by the prestigious Erasmus Mundus framework of the European Commission through which students from non-European Union countries are eligible for two-year grants of € 24,000 per year

UNEP SASAKAWA PRIZE

The UNEP Sasakawa Prize recognizes laureates with a proven record of achievement, as well as the potential to make outstanding contributions to the environment consistent with UNEP##$$s policy and objectives. This international award is a partnership between UNEP and The Nippon Foundation. The search is on for the most innovative, groundbreaking and sustainable grassroots environmental initiatives in emerging and developing countries! The winner will receive $200,000 cash prize at an Award Ceremony and Reception to be held in February 2011, in Nairobi, Kenya.

Erasmus Mundus - Lotus Scholarships

Applications are now open till 30 September 2010 . Lotus is an Erasmus Mundus Action Two Partnership (EMA2) of European and Asian Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and Associations aiming at fostering mutual enrichment and better understanding between the EU and Asia, through the exchange of persons, knowledge and skills at higher education level and to co-operate in the following program activities: mobility of undergraduate and graduate students, mobility of PhD students, post-doc mobility and, academic and administrative staff mobility

Erasmus Mundus - EUMAINE Scholarships

Application form non-EU students for academic years 2011-2013 are available online - deadline 1st of January 2011. The European Master of Science in Nematology (EUMAINE) is one of the Erasmus Mundus Master courses. The EUMAINE programme brings together some of the European leading Universities and Research Institutes active in Nematology and is offered by a network of 8 partners, consisting of 4 consortium partners and 4 supporting or satellite partners. The aim of the course is to train students to become highly qualified nematologists with multidisciplinary knowledge in the diverse fields of Nematology through mobility to different Universities within Europe and with a well-integrated language and cultural experience. The programme deals with fundamental as well as applied aspects of Nematology and concerns different groups of nematodes in all possible environments: natural soils, agricultural soils, aquatic sediments of freshwater, brackish or marine habitats, temperate and tropical regions.

Katholischer Akademischer Auslander-Dienst Scholarships

The KAAD, by its German name in full known as Katholischer Akademischer Auslander-Dienst (the Catholic Academic Support Service for Foreign Students, Germany) has, since long, provided scholarships for young professionals in need of such support from countries around the world. you can apply if you:
  • come from a developing or emerging country in Africa, Asia, the Middle East or Latin America
  • have a university degree and professional experience from your home country
  • want to acquire a master##$$s degree or a PhD at a German university or do a post-doctoral research project (2-6 months for established university lecturers) at a German university

Erasmus Mundus - AFEPA Schlolarships

European and non-European students can apply again for admission and Erasmus Mundus (EM) scholarships for the 2011-12 academic year from September 1, 2010 to January 10, 2011. The European Master in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis (AFEPA) aims at providing a high quality education in designing and assessing public policies targeted to the agricultural and food sector as well as the rural environment. This European Master responds to the increasing need to better understand and anticipate the various and often complex socio-economic and environmental effects of these policies either in a functioning market economy as in the European Union or in economies in a development or transition phase. The European Master offers a two-year academic curriculum with integrated and advanced theoretical, methodological and empirical courses in economics and quantitative methods as well as in agricultural, food and environmental sciences, agricultural and trade policy, environmental and natural resource policy, rural development policy and agribusiness management and market analysis.

FSC Scholarships

The Food Security Center (FSC) is a university center of excellence in development collaboration at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany. FSC is one of five excellence centers of the pro- gram “exceed – Higher Education Excellence in Development Cooperation”, which is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funds of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of Germany. FSC’s mission is to make effective and innova- tive scientific contributions in research, teaching, and policy advice to eradicate hunger and achieve food security in collaboration with partner research and education organizations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and national and international development and research organizations. Thematically, FSC’s activities deal with issues of sustainable food availability, food access, food use, and food utilization. FSC awards up to 29 scholarships.

PhD Research Fund at Ghent University

Ghent University supports students who want to take a doctorate under joint supervision of Ghent University and a non-Flemish partner university or institution for higher education. No restrictions are imposed on the field of research, nor on the age of the applicant. The PhD-student has to stay minimum 6 months and maximum 24 months at Ghent University. The stay may be divided into several periods within the span of 4 years.

AVAC Fellowships

The AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition(AVAC) by a few volunteers with experience of treatment activism at ACTUP/NY. Their stated mission was to speed the development of preventive HIV vaccines by analyzing obstacles to HIV vaccine development and advocating to remove them, without taking resources away from basic research, treatment, or prevention.

The HIV Prevention Research Advocacy Fellowship pairs emerging leaders in advocacy and activism with existing organizations to develop and execute creative, context-specific projects focused on HIV prevention research. Fellowship projects focus primarily on advocacy around biomedical HIV prevention research (such as clinical trials of vaccines, microbicides, pre-exposure prophylaxis) or rollout of male circumcision for HIV prevention. Fellowship projects may also focus on “test and treat” or ARV treatment as prevention strategies, which are under active discussion in many contexts. Fellows receive training, financial support, and technical assistance to plan and implement a targeted one-year project within host organizations focused on HIV/AIDS.

The ExxonMobil Middle East and North Africa Scholars Programme


ECO Fellowships

Environmental ChemOinformatic (ECO) is a collaborative action of seven groups from five EU countries. It is aimed to prepare a new generation of environmental scientists who will contribute to implementation (but not limited to) of new European legislation on chemical substances (REACH). ECO provides eleven positions leading towards PhD, Long-Term Fellowships, (Early Stage Researchers in EU terminology) and one postdoctoral appointment (Experienced Researcher in EU terminology). Moreover 37 Short-Term Fellowships (Early Stage Researchers in EU terminology) will be appointed. Nationality Researchers can be nationals of any country other than the country of the premises of the host organization where they will carry out their project.

UNESCO/Poland Fellowships

With a view to promoting human resource capacities in the least developed countries (LDCs) and to enhancing international understanding and friendship among nations and the people of Poland, the Polish National Commission for UNESCO and the AGH International Promotion Centre for Technology and Engineering Education (AGH IPCTEE) under the auspice of UNESCO and AGH University of Science and Technology (Krakow), are placing at the disposal of UNESCO fifteen (15) fellowships of a six months duration starting on 1 October 2010 for the benefit of Member States listed in Annex I of the announcement letter. Beneficiaries of these fellowships will be given the opportunity to undertake an individual research programme in the field of Science and Technology.

University of Sydney World Scholars

Up to 20 new full tuition fee PhD scholarships are offered per annum for commencing international students. Scholarships cover the full cost of tuition fees for three years. A travel contribution of up to AUD $1,250 each way will also be provided to scholarship holders.
The World Scholars program is for commencing international students from participating countries, undertaking a PhD in any discipline. The application process is highly competitive with scholarships awarded on the basis of research potential and academic merit. Scholarship holders should demonstrate, in their PhD application, an outstanding academic track record and capacity to engage in innovative and world class research.

UNU-ISP Scholarships

UNU-ISP takes an innovative, integrated approach to sustainability — one that encompasses global change, development, peace and security. The Institute bridges these cross-cutting issues through research, educational, and collaborative initiatives with the aim of solving current problems and anticipating future challenges.
The UNU Institute for Sustainability and Peace is in discussions with top universities across the globe regarding the initiation of joint graduate degree programmes. UNU-ISP will undertake graduate degree programmes leading to the granting of master’s and doctorate degrees on themes relevant to UNU-ISP’s focus on sustainability and peace.

Scholarships to developing countries from the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Higher Education (SIU).

SIU is a knowledge- and service organisation with the mission of promoting and facilitating cooperation, standardisation, mobility, and the overcoming of cultural barriers to communication and exchange within the realm of higher education on an international level. The goal of the Quota Scheme is to give students from developing countries in the South, Central- and East-Europe and Central-Asia, relevant education that would also benefit their home countries when they return after graduation.The programme also contributes to strengthen Norwegian institutions of higher education##$$s participation in global knowledge cooperation. The Norwegian government provides scholarships for students from developing countries in the South and countries of Central- and East-Europe and Central-Asia under the Quota Scheme. The overall objective of the Quota Scheme is to promote the internationalisation of higher education.
